Organs from the time of the Orgelbewegung (Organ Reform Movement) place special demands on organbuilders and organ advisers. The big question is - What should be the approach be to such an instrument?. One solution which has crystallised for us out of comparable projects over the last 15 years is - FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE ESSENTIAL CHARACTER OF THE ORGAN.
In 1965 Emil Hammer built a new instrument within the case of the Walcker instrument of 1927. Our extensive renovation work of 2009 included reinstatement of a 16ft tonal scheme, complete renewal of electrical systems and rectification of construction faults in the action. The wind system was very unstable, but now, after technical improvements, reacts in a gentle but firm way. This forms the basis for the full, clear, ringing voicing style of the Orgelbewegung.
The outcome is tonally so unified and convincing that it has given us the courage to bring other instruments up to a higher technical and tonal level in this way. Characteristic organs of this period thus become a discovery for the next generation.
